Bernie was very fond of his job at Wayne Enterprises, but due to the company's mandatory retirement policy, he was to be forced out of his job at the age of 65 and be given a retirement dinner party. When the day came, however, Bruce Wayne informed him that the party was being cancelled and that he was also getting rid of the company's retirement policy, telling Bernie that as long as he's able to do the job, he could work for the company for as long as he wanted, much to Bernie's joy.
