Reviews[]
In 2014, John Takis reviewed the soundtrack from Blind as a Bat as part of the 3rd Volume of Original Soundtracks from Batman: The Animated Series.
Scoring duties on "Blind as a Bat" were split between Steve Chesne and James Stemple, taking a similarly gung-ho approach to the material. Chesne's dues deal with Batman at his most compromised, with broadly expressive horn and string writing as the Dark Knight struggles to persevere. He also provides a cherry industrual march for the initial Raven demonstration. - Stemple, meanwhile, covers the theft of the aircraft, the battle over Gotham, and Batman's final victory. Walker's Penguin theme appears sparingly, usually performed at a deliberate tempo to give it an atypically sinister quality. The epic aerial set piece folds in statements of Walker's Batman theme, Penguin variations and the series' final usage of the Elfman theme.
Composers Steve Chesne and James Stemple also talked about the writing of the score:
Chesne:
I felt such a kinship with the orchestral Batman musical style. I thoroughly enjoyed the recording sessions with Shirley and her enormously talented accomplices.
Stemple
It was a lot of fun. One thing that impressed me, that is often the case in Los Angeles, was the quality of the musicians. Even though the orchestra was mid-sized, it was a big sound, a feature film sound. Working with that caliber of musicians, they never miss.
