Gotham City is a metropolitan city in the U.S. state of New York. The city is located somewhere north of Atlantic City and south of New York City. It is the home of Batman, the world's greatest detective as well as his allies and foes alike.
History[]
Gotham City is hundreds of years old, being founded on the estuary of the Gotham River. As years passed, it grew in size, and founded its own University in 1898. As a result of its industrial and commercial growth, it became a home to Wayne Enterprises. A dark city, Gotham was preyed on by organized crime, unscrupulous businessmen, and corrupt city officials.
It has a present-day population of 10 million inhabitants. Most of the city's crime was fought by their ever-vigilant Police Department, now aided by the masked vigilante Batman and his allies.
As the base of operations of some of the most dangerous criminals, Gotham City has been targeted of various criminal plots. Among the most remarkable ones, are the city-wide poisoning with laughing gas by the Joker[1] and the destructions of several buildings by Ted Dymer The Mad Bomber.[2]
