Reviews[]

Writer Paul Dini wrote in 2008, the following statement in regards of the score for the episode:

The cheery mixture of whistling, tuba and (possibly) whoopee cushion that introduces us to Joker's Favor recalls the playful flavor of a fifties sit-com. It is most fitting as the protagonist of the episode, helpless Charlie Collins, is a put upon everyman dealing with everyday problems. The jazzy fusion of violin, snare drum and muted trumpet that underscores Charlie's weary mood is suddenly interrupted by a sinister version of The Joker's theme, whose abrupt appearance throws Charlie's life into chaos. When Charlie is later forced to plead for his life, his theme takes on a classic weepy "heartstrings" edge. This followed by a grimmer reworking of the same theme that let us know that by agreeing to the terms by which the Joker will spare his life, Charlie has literally made a deal with the devil. For a complete change of pace, there's the graduation-like march when the disguised Harley Quinn presents Commissioner Gordon with his cake. This is another example of how Shirley and her crew seized every opportunity to fill each episode with musical variety and rich imagination.

Soundtrack editor, Daniel Schweiger stated the following:

Walker delivers one of her wackiest Batman themes with the speedy strings, piccolo whistling, whimpering violin and the "snerd" of a solo tuba for this "miserable, little nobody," music that flows through her absurd Joker theme. Yet Walker also creates a menacingly ironic version of her "Schlub" theme to tell us the predicament is no laughing matter for Collins, who ultimately finds his orchestral courage to stand up to the Joker.

Producer Bruce Timm stated the following:

Normally we shied away from playin up "comedy" music, even though I thought of this episode as being blatantly funny, but Shirley really wanted to play the humor, and her approach worked because she found the darker chord to it.
