Reviews[]

In 2014, John Takis reviewed the soundtrack from See No Evil as part of the 3rd Volume of Original Soundtracks from Batman: The Animated Series.

"See No Evil" is a case study in Walker's ability to develop a single prominent idea. Aside from the occasional thrilling appearance of the Batman theme and a brief figure for the young girl, the score is substantially based on a six-note, octave-spanning melody and variations. This singsong theme is usually heard in the orchestra's high registers, often with delicate glockenspiel, while unsettling harmonies wend through the low registers. The impression is that of a viper that has found its way into the nursery. Walker evolves her material with Herrmannesque flair, making effective use of sinister harmonies and obsessive repetition- a stylistic hallmark of her work, notably in such film scores as "Final Destination" and "Turbulence". For the brunt of the episode, the theme appears in a minor key. In the final scene, Walker shifts the tune into a major, allowing one of her darkest series scores to conclude on a more optimistic beat.
